Wentworth Woodhouse welcomes you back to the annual lecture series.
Much has been written about Thomas Wentworth, first Earl of Strafford's political alliances with other powerful men - but he also had important relationships with women, including his third wife, Elizabeth, and the great beauty of the Court, Lucy, Countess of Carlisle. Fiona Pogson will talk about how these women supported his work and furthered the development of his image as a successful servant of the Crown.
Dr Fiona Pogson is a Senior Lecturer in History at Liverpool Hope University, whose research focuses on Thomas Wentworth, Earl of Strafford, and the politics of the court of Charles I. She has published widely on Wentworth's career, the Council of the North and early Stuart politics.
